Study
of Recycling in West Michigan Reveals Good
Programs A new
study released by the West Michigan Strategic
Alliance (WMSA) shows that most residents in the
region have access to curbside recycling programs
but not all are aware about the programs or are
confused about how they work.
Recycling
Resources Innovation helps fund "Green
construction training" The Restoring Lives –
Recycling Resources, an Innovation of the WIRED
West Michigan initiative, is an innovative
workforce training program created by Goodwill
Industries of Greater Grand
Rapids.
Goodwill Industries provides job training
programs for individuals with barriers to
employment. A pilot project and
collaboration between Goodwill Industries, Grand
Rapids Community College and Habitat for Humanity
of Kent County has been developed to train
individuals in the growing green construction
industry.
Training follows the National
Center for Construction Education and Research
(NCCER) curriculum. Students receive a NCCER
certificate with hands-on "Green" construction
skills and also receive assistance in finding jobs
in green construction, weatherization and
retrofitting. The inaugural class
graduated on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 after
building a "Green" model for the Great Lakes Green
2009 Green Living Conference on August 21st at
DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, MI. To learn
